- A major debut publishing deal reportedly worth more than $2 million collapsed after the author’s agents said they could no longer verify that the manuscript had been written without AI assistance. The novel was withdrawn from sale despite sparking a 14-publisher bidding war.
- The agents said they initially accepted the author’s assurances that AI had not been used, but later withdrew representation after inconsistencies emerged in discussions about how the manuscript was created. Notably, they said they did not rely on AI-detection software, instead losing confidence based on the changing explanations.
- Author Jerry Falade denies using AI. He also points out that AI detectors are known to produce false positives and says numerous editors and publishers had already vetted the manuscript.
